Azalea Aquariums

Azalea Aquariums

Azalea Aquariums was a project for my UX design class. We were tasked with picking a website to audit and were given the option to then make a design system for it and then a fully prototyped website. Azalea Aquariums is a real storefront located in Richmond, VA. I took in upon myself to essentially just use their title for this project, as the original website and mine have little in common. I then decided to take it a step further creating a logo for the store as well as packaging. This was a really interesting project that spanned over the course of the entire semester.

The logo for Azalea Aquariums was inspired by the flower they are named after. I wanted to find a way I could incorporate both the fish and the flower into the logo. With a bit of tinkering I feel I was able to do just that.

Products offered by Azalea Aquariums are of course fish, so if someone goes to a store to purchase said fish it would be important having a bag to carry it in. Therefore I felt the need to add the logo to the store’s own paper bags.

How did the website start?

Azalea Aquariums started by finding the site itself. I had developed an interest for fish so I decided to take on a fish ecommerce site. Looking at the initial site there were many issues that I noticed. The lack of use of the full page, the colors, the small pictures, and the overall confusing look of the site. I mainly focused on the “Home” and “New Freshwater” page, pointing out each specific issue.

It was very clear to me that something needed to change from the initial website. The color scheme, page layout, and the overall outdated look. I decided to make two new screens addressing the issues I noticed in the initial site. These screens later served as a sort of wire frame for how I wanted the site to ultimately look.

The final website

The web layout for Azalea Aquariums consists of a home page, about page, products page, product information page, and checkout page. Each of these are prototyped to function as intended.
